The Virtual Planet Needs You!

The truth is, we really do need you. We always need more staff here at the Virtual Planet. So please take a few minutes to read this concise description of how you can help the Virtual Planet remain a quality publication.

VP staff are a part of a hard-working team of volunteers that publish new articles each and every day. No single staff member is required to write an article every day. We do what we can. But the more of us there are, the greater the variety of articles we can publish.

We also accept submissions from non-staff all the time! Click "How to submit" or "What we need" in the menu bar below to get information on that.

Becoming a VP Staff member

So what exactly do VP staff do? Here it is in a nutshell:

  • We write articles and turn them into webpages
  • We turn submissions from readers into webpages
  • We post our articles to a bulletin board system to be approved by the appropriate Section Editor
  • We update the front page of our website each day with new articles and send out a notice to our e-mail subscribers
  • We talk via group-e-mail and sometimes even have meetings inworld

If you are interested in joining us, please feel free to contact any of us inworld, or send us e-mail at editors@vplanet.org. Not sure who to contact? Check out our Inside the Virtual Planet page.

Please keep in mind that in order to join our staff, you will need to know how to make web pages to create articles for the Virtual Planet. If you are willing to learn, we will be happy to teach you. Non-staff submitters need only send us text and images. We need both kinds of people!

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. I sincerely hope that you will consider joining the Virtual Planet. I find working on this paper to be an extremely rewarding experience (among other things!).

How to submit articles as a non-staff member

There are two ways:

  • If you don't do web pages, simply send us text and pictures using our Submit an Article Form. Or you can e-mail them to us at editors@vplanet.org. We can read most standard attachments, too (.jpg, .gif, .txt, .doc, .htm, .html).

  • If you do web pages, send us the URL, or the files themselves. While we can only publish pages that live on the Virtual Planet server, we can download your files, put them into VP format, and upload them to our server. You would, of course, get credited as the author.

What we need

Maybe you have a cute DS screenshot. Send it in! Do you have a funny caption for it? Include it! If not, one of our multi-talented editors will think one up for you. Be sure to include your name so we can give you credit.

Maybe you host a new kind of game, like a scavenger hunt or a joke contest - anything out of the ordinary. You probably had to write down how to play for your players. Maybe you even made a rules website. Send us that! If you can't write the article yourself, send us what you've got and we'll turn it into an article. It's always helpful to send a picture along, too.

Do you have an upcoming event that you would like publicized? Contact us with the details!

Do you have a shop or auction? Virtual Planet has a Kymer Trading section! While we don't have the time or resources to write articles about every shop or auction in Kymer, we will be happy to publish an article that you write and submit. That kind of publicity can't hurt your sales! However, we do NOT publish classified ads, such as "selling lockable notepad chest for 20K. ESP so and so."

Maybe you've written a new plug-in or game program. We would be happy to publish an article about it! It doesn't have to be a long article, either. Just enough to point readers to your website.

Getting married inworld? Send us your invitation website and we'll publish a link to it. If you're wedding is at a time that I can be inworld, I will be happy to attend and write an article that includes pictures and vows. Just let me know.

We need articles about all the mysterious things that go on inworld. Those Mages, Muses, Pans and Jesters are always up to something, and we just don't have enough staff to cover them. I would very much like to change that!

We also have a Real World section. We would be thrilled to publish your original artwork, poetry, prose or fiction. Join Shawnee Chance 2 in writing movie and book reviews, too!

What I would really like to see in the RW section are articles about computing and the internet in general. Viruses, virus hoaxes, security issues, privacy issues, new product reviews, and so on. These are topics of great interest to many of our readers. I know that a lot of you are computer geeks, errr, geniuses, with a lot to share. Share your special talents with us!

I hear that VP used to have an astrologist . If you'd like to write Kymerian Horoscopes, let's talk!

As always, our Opinion Page welcomes your editorials. Send those to editors@vplanet.org
