The History of Fern Day Ferns

July 31, 1999

 by: gloree

So many ferns!  Where did they all come from?  And when?  Here is the run down of ferns available on Fern Days past.

1996 - The First Fern Day!

The top row shows two identical double ferns.  One was available from the Fern Day vendo for the grand sum of 10 tokens.  The ID was Fern.  The other was a prize in Fern Day games and had the ID of  Fern Day Commemorative Prize

Bottom row shows the original green paint of the first Fern head* which was sold in vendo for 100 tokens.  Other fern heads were won as prizes and had the ID Fern Day Commemorative Prize and were painted in the acolyte paint colors, such as the gold one shown here.  The single fern (ID: Fern) was available in vendo for 10 tokens as well.

1997 -- Look familiar?

In 1997, the fern day prizes and items were about the same as before.  The single Fern was still in vendo, and I believe it was still 10 tokens.  The double fern had a new ID of Have a Fern Day and a price of 25 tokens.  The fern head had the ID Fern Head (someone left off the * even though it is still paintable).  Price was still 100 tokens. Fern Day Commemorative Prizes were still given out as awards.

Electra and Chammie made some changes for us on  Fern Day 1998

The single fern on the top row had the ID Fern Day '98 and still cost 10 tokens.  The smaller, two branched fern had the same ID and price.  Also in vendo was the fern head which had the ID August 1st, 1998 Kymer Fern Head and had a different vendo paint that from previous years, however, all fern heads are paintable.  Its cost was 175 tokens.  There was a vendo for the tiny two-branched Mini Fern which had a cost of 35 tokens.  In the jungle grasslands, Fern Day(-glo)'98 fronds could be purchased in two shapes and four colors for 19 tokens each.

Around Kymer, specially painted fern heads were glued and the lucky avie who found the head unglued could claim it.  The ID of these was Fern Day '98.  Acolyte Serena had her traditional Fern Day trivia.  Prizes to be won there included blue fern heads with the ID, Fern Day Trivia '98 and also the white fern fronds which had the ID Fern Day(-glo)'98.

What will 1999 bring?  We will soon know! Please send me any corrections there may be to the above data.
